John Dalton, Associate Professor of Economics at Wake Forest University, will give a talk with the title “Creative Destruction and the Age of AI.”

The talk will take place on March 17, 2026, from 12:00pm-1:30pm in the Lury and Barbara Goodall Room in the Newman Library.

All faculty, students, and members of the public are welcome to attend. Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP (strongly recommended).

Here is a description of the talk: Professor Dalton will talk about his recent book on the economist Joseph Schumpeter’s idea of creative destruction.  Creative destruction describes when a new innovation enters the economy—the creation—and displaces the old ways of being—the destruction. Schumpeter argued creative destruction was “the essential fact about capitalism” and a main driver of economic change.  The current Age of AI will affect all of us through the creative destruction it unleashes, and people throughout society need to understand the forces at work in order to better adapt to the changing economy.

If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, please contact ppe@nullvt.edu at least ten business days before the event.
