PPE Cinema: Fall 2024

The PPE Cinema brings together faculty, students, and members of the public to watch and discuss great films that raise questions in philosophy, politics, and economics.  Food and beverages will be provided.

September 12, 2024 (6:30 pm): Hidden (Caché)

A psychotriller about an affluent Parisian couple facing anonymous threats and a reflection on France’s colonial past. Austrian director Michael Haneke won the Award for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005 for this film. Students registered in PPE 1004 are required to RSVP here no later than 10:00am on the day of screening.

October 15, 2024 (6:30 pm): The Conformist

In the late 1930s, a Fascist functionary is ordered to assassinate his former professor. A visually stunning film about the psychology of conformism. This is a film by Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci (1970). Students registered in PPE 1004 are required to RSVP here no later than 10:00am on the day of screening.

November 21, 2024 (6:30 pm): Dead Man

A psychedelic Western by Jim Jarmusch (1995) starring Johnny Depp as an accountant on the run who meets a strange Native American man named Nobody. The soundtrack was improvised by Neil Young. Students registered in PPE 1004 are required to RSVP here no later than 10:00am on the day of screening.
