PPE Events Fall 2024 This semester, the Kellogg Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics will organize the following main events and activities. PPE MEET AND GREET. The Kellogg Center will hold its annual Meet and Greet event on September 10, 2024, from 3:30-4:30pm. Please join us for an informal reception (free food) to learn more about the Kellogg Center, its faculty, students, and activities this year. The PPE Meet and Greet will take place at the Kellogg Center (820 University City Blvd, free parking). PPE WORKING PAPER SERIES. The Center organizes a working paper series that allows PPE Core Faculty, PPE Research Fellows, and PPE Affiliated Faculty members to present some of their work in progress. The series offers a friendly and constructive environment for sharing and advancing preliminary research in PPE and is typically combined with a lunch with participants, including interested undergraduate and graduate students. For the lineup of speakers, please see the PPE Calendar. PPE CINEMA. The PPE Cinema welcomes faculty and students from across campus who are interested in watching and discussing great films. The PPE Cinema will screen “Hidden (Caché)” (September 12th), “The Conformist” (October 15th), and “Dead Man” (November 21st). Together we watch movies and discuss the questions in philosophy, politics, and economics that they raise. For more information, please visit here. PPE RESEARCH SPEAKER SERIES. The Kellogg Center will host two research talks this semester. On October 2, 2024 (4-5:30pm), Jack Turner will give a talk with the title “Die Your Own Death: Walt Whitman’s Existential Democracy.” On October 30, 2024 (4-5:30pm), Christoph Lütge will give a talk on “The Contribution of Business Ethics to the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.” The talks are tailored to appeal to both faculty and students and provides time for discussion and interaction with the guest speaker. The PPE Reading Group will meet every other Wednesday from 12:00-1:30pm, starting on September 11, 2024, during the semester for a Lunch & Learn to jointly read and discuss a book that deals with a current topic from a PPE perspective. The Kellogg Center will host a PPE Law School Discussion Session this semester. On November 4, 2024 (6-7:15pm), Nicholas Work, a PPE Graduate and J.D. Candidate at the University of Virginia School of Law, will discuss law school admissions, selection of law schools, when to attend law school, considerations while attending law school, careers, and more.
