PPE Working Paper Series 2022-2023

The Kellogg Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics will organize a working paper series this academic year. The series allows PPE Core Faculty, PPE Research Fellows, and PPE Affiliated Faculty members to present some of their work in progress.

The series offers a friendly and constructive intellectual environment for sharing and advancing preliminary research in PPE and is typically combined with a lunch for participants, including interested undergraduate and graduate students.

In the fall semester, the following faculty members will share their work:

David Bieri, an affiliated faculty member of the Kellogg Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and a faculty member in Urban Affairs and Planning at Virginia Tech, will give a talk with the title “Between ‘Visualisability’ and ‘Observability’: August Lösch’s Spatial Theory of Business Cycles and the Interwar Battle over the Soul of German Economics.” The talk will take place on November 10, 2022, from 12:30-1:45pm, in the conference room of the Kellogg Center.

Nicholas Goedert, an affiliated faculty member of the Kellogg Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and a faculty member in Political Science at Virginia Tech, will give a talk with the title “Asymmetries in Optimized Partisan Gerrymandering.” The talk will take place on December 7, 2022, from 12:30-1:45pm, in the conference room of the Kellogg Center.

In the spring semester, the following faculty members will share their work:

Nicolaus Tideman, an affiliated faculty member of the Kellogg Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and a faculty member in Economics at Virginia Tech, will give a talk with the title “The Importance of Condorcet Consistency in Preserving Democracy.” The talk will take place on February 09, 2023, from 12:30-1:45pm, in the conference room of the Kellogg Center.

Byron Tsang, an affiliated faculty member of the Kellogg Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and a faculty member in Economics at Virginia Tech, will give a talk with the title “Who Raised the Invisible Hand?” The talk will take place on April 12, 2023, from 12:30-1:45pm, in the conference room of the Kellogg Center.
