PPE Lunchtime Talk with Stan Husi

Stan Husi, Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will give a talk with the title “Moral Games.”

The talk will take place on October 15, 2024, from 11:30am-12:45pm in the conference room of the Kellogg Center (820 University City Blvd). All faculty, students, and members of the public are welcome to attend. Lunch will be served.

Here is the abstract of the talk: My talk is part of a larger project on, or against, excessive moralizing. Curb your moral enthusiasm is my working title. Unlike many fellow moral philosophers, I crave less morality, not more, a shrinking circle not an ever expanding one. One crucial question for my project is, what is moralizing? The talk works towards an answer, drawing on a crucial passage from JS Mill. Crucially, I wish to frame moralizing as a prominent move in the moral game.  In drawing this game-centric picture, in conceiving morality sub specie ludi, I take heart from a truly wonderful book, Homo Ludens. Why this such a profitable metaphor I hope to show in the talk.
